Batik Fabric

Batik Fabric

Batik fabric decorating is a tradition originating in Java, Indonesia. This type of design has been in existence for centuries, resulting in the creation of beautiful fabrics. Batiks, which are hand-printed textiles, (often production fabrics), goes through a resist process for creating designs on fabric. Many options for dye and wax can be used on silk, cotton, and various natural textiles. Dyes are used; however, fabrics which have been coated with wax, or a resist are not dyed. The methods involve “dotting” and dye baths lending way to lovely colors and patterns.

Please put this on your calendar! On Wednesday, April 19, from 1:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Merry Moose will host an importer of Batik fabrics for you to meet. Shop in store, and at 6:00 p.m., watch a presentation on how Batiks are made. This proves to be a fascinating demonstration, and we hope that you will not miss it!

What can we create with Batiks? Quilting with batiks is quite thrilling! You will wonder why you haven’t tried batiks before. Consider quilts, of course, with table runners, and wall hangings, and pillows, oh, my! Batik fabrics are some of our favorites, and we can’t wait to share the demo with you. We hope that this unique experience will inspire you to create some fabulous patterns and color combinations. You are the artist!

Be sure to join us on the 19th!

Merry Moose is happy to help with any of your projects or to lend inspiration to your quilting endeavors.

We thank you for reading our blog!
