Superior Threads

Superior Threads

One of the essential parts of making a quilt is choosing what thread to use. We all love thread. Our favorite at the Moose is Superior Thread,  it is low lint and low fuzz!  It stitches beautifully and the variegated ones are great for quilting your own projects at home.

We also like Mettler thread for piecing.  Another good one is Aurifil (we don’t carry any of this yet though).  Thread can make the difference in a nicely pieced project where seams are nice and flat. Thread that is way too thick makes the seams an incorrect size because the thread takes up too much of seam allowance.

Here are our most used Superior Threads (So Fine! #50):

These are the ones we like to piece with.  We always tell people to use whatever color is on our machine to piece because you don’t see it anyway.  Obviously on something pure white, you wouldn’t put black thread, that MAY show through.  I would say that all of our piecing is done in either the white/cream, gray or black.  No need to match colors to fabric.  They can be used as both top and bobbin thread.

Here are some of our favorite Superior Threads (Rainbow):

Rainbow threads are quite popular if you want to quilt your own quilt and “jazz” it up a bit.  Small table runners, wall hangings, and similar projects are what people use the variegated thread for. You can view the entire Rainbow collection at the Superior Threads website here.
