Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day

“Love doesn’t make the world go round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile.”

– Franklin P. Jones

February, a very busy month! We’ve already heard from our friend, the groundhog, and tomorrow is Cupid’s turn! Valentine’s Day is the day of love and showing affection for loved ones and friends. Whom would you like to remember, thank, or create a special something for? Well, girl, we need to get those project juices flowing, so let’s “toss” in something new!

Since Merry Moose knows that the way to a man’s heart is not through his threads but rather his stomach, we’ve got your plan of attack!

Women know that mixed greens are very healthy, so Merry Moose has a recipe that your mate will enjoy for lunch or dinner. Along with your main dish, you will steal his heart!

Remember that decorating the table can be fun as well. Be creative with a simple place setting in a favorite Valentine color, although, let’s not rule out his favorite color. Who said that we need to follow the same traditions of pink, red, or purple hues? His favorite color will show your thoughtfulness, however, to sneak in some red, surprise him with a chocolate-dipped strawberry or two.

Strawberries Dipped In Chocolate

  • 4 -large, washed (and very-well dried) red strawberries (two for him, two for you)
  1. Melt approximately 4-5 oz. (suggested rich, dark) chocolate chips in a double boiler, or pan over pan.
  2. When chocolate is melted, remove from heat and quickly dip the strawberries into the chocolate. Let harden by skewering with a toothpick and resting over a shotglass or egg cup. Decorate with nuts, whipped cream or decadent cake icing.

Valentine’s Sweet Salad Recipe

This delicious salad recipe has many variations and you can get as creative as your heart desires.

  • Red leaf lettuce, romaine lettuce gently torn in salad-bite pieces (for two)
  • ½ cup strawberries, sliced, fresh if possible (other option: frozen and thawed)
  • ½ small can mandarin oranges, drained
  • 2 T sliced almonds
  • 3 T dried cranberries
  • Top with feta cheese
  • A wine vinegrette that compliments strawberries will go nicely

*All ingredient amounts are approximate depending on serving sizes.

Enjoy! Happy Valentine’s Day from Merry Moose Quilt Shoppe. Our ride is worthwhile because of you!
